NORTH HARBOUR GRADE CUPS |
||||
|
We are pleased to announce that the 2004/05 season
will be the inaugural tournaments at which Grade Cups will be awarded to the
top North Harbour player representing Harbour at each ACA District Age
Group Tournament. HOW WILL IT WORK? All players are eligible to win the trophy based on
their tournament performances; obviously if you are in one of the B section
teams for your grade you will need to accrue more points to win than someone
playing in the A section. But we think overall any player who has an
outstanding tournament will have a good chance of winning their Grade
Trophy. Each player will be awarded
points for: 1. Each
run they make 2. Each
wicket they take 3. Each
catch they take 4. Each
stumping made by a wicketkeeper 5. Each
“direct hit” run out * 6. Each
“assisted” run out made ** 7. Bonus
points for each six wicket bag in an innings 8. Bonus
points for 100 or more runs in an innings 9. Bonus
points for 6 or more catches and/or stumpings in an innings * Run Out Direct = Direct throw
from one fielder (not relayed) hits the stumps without assistance from
another fielder. ** Run Out Assist = Run outs where two fielders are
instrumental in effecting the batsman's dismissal. Where more than two
fielders are involved in the effecting of the dismissal, the last two
fielders to be in contact with the ball are to be noted The Grade Cup winners and leading results will be
published on the North Harbour website in January after the tournaments have
concluded. ABOUT THE CUP SPONSORS: These magnificent cups have been donated to us by
two very generous sponsors: The Kelly family, donating the Jim Kelly Cup for Primary Schoolboys and the Elva
Kelly Cup Under 14 Girls). Jim Kelly
As
a player represented Manuwatu and Wellington in the 1950's. A wicketkeeper and top order batsman. As an administrator Jim involved with Wellington Cricket for a number of years and was the Chairman of the old North Harbour Cricket Association and involved in trying to drive it through for 1st class status in the early 90's when the mens and womens cricket merged. Jim was also was also the cricket representative on the NH Stadium and Domain Development Board involved in planning for the new stadium. He coached the North Harbour Womens cricket team at the national 2nd XI tournament. A
huge supporter of cricket, both mens and womens and as the Public Relations
Manager for Shell Oil he instigated the national sponsorship of mens cricket
(Shell Cup and Shell Series) as well as womens cricket (the Shell Rosebowl). Elva Kelly
Can
be best described as the ultimate supporter.
Elva ran the canteen at Stanley Bay Park where the NH womens premier
competition was held for many years.
She managed a number of both age-group and open grade womens cricket
teams (originally in Wellington, U17, U19, 2nd XI) and then in North Harbour
(2nd XI). She was on the NH womens cricket assoc committee for many
years. Jim
& Elva’s three children were all actively involved in the game… Paul Kelly
Played
for both Westlake 1st XI and North Shore Club. An Auckland 1st XI player
(Shell team) for ten years in the 1980's with 32 one day games and 49 First Class
games for Auckland, Paul played as a Wicketkeeper, just before Adam Parore
and Jason Mills appeared on the scene. Played NZ Brabin Shield (U 23).
Currently involved with junior coaching at Parnell cricket and busy coaching
his own 3 children, no doubt all will become capable wicketkeepers in due
course. Sarah
Kelly (now Beaman) Played

Club). Representative cricket for
Wellington U17, U19, 2nd XI, North Harbour 2nd XI and 1st XI, and Auckland

and lastly but not least our very own North Harbour U17 girls this winter. Dean
Kelly
Played
for Wellington College 1st XI and Wellington U17. Played for North Shore Club.
Continues to play cricket in Singapore and India, after a long stint
playing in Hong Kong. A wicketkeeper
and top order batsman. Debbie
Kelly (now Milford-Cottam) Played
for Wellington Girls College 1st XI. Massey University for Under
15, Under 17 and Secondary Schoolgirls Cups…each known as the Massey Cup. 2004 saw Massey University enter a significant
partnership with North Harbour Cricket. You will probably all by now seen the
magnificent new indoor training facility developed by Massey University in
partnership with Takapuna District Cricket Club. This state of the art
three-lane facility opened in August this
year, just in time for pre-season training and has been in heavy demand by
clubs and schools from all over North Harbour. All
this would not have been possible by the generosity and commitment of Massey
University in providing space and support for cricket in their new Sports,
Leisure and Cultural Centre. If that was not enough, Massey have now come
forward with a very generous offer of cup sponsorship. On behalf
of North Harbour Cricket, thank you to the Kelly Family and Massey University
for your support. |
